For a first real go as a completely inexperienced player when it comes to the Fissure of Woe that's not bad. I remember the first time I went down with one other person and 6 heroes. I took a quest from Kromril the Eternal, and after completing it and heading back to collect the reward, it transpired some Undead (from a reasonable distance away) were making straight for him. The short of it was he died and we failed. Lesson learnt...now I kill every foe within a compass range around a friendly NPC, and try to force as many pop-ups as I can.

One key way to surviving the FoW is knowing the quests well, where spawns pop up, and when it's worth clearing routes (such as the Griffon quest).

On the subject of Margrid with [[Throw Dirt], I'd remove it completely, and try to fit Blind onto another player. If you cap Earth Shaker any time, perhaps you could consider [[Earth Shaker] + [[Belly Smash], though Blinding Flash or Blinding Surge would still come out on top for permanent blind.

Better luck next time - Learn and adapt.

If you are looking for advice ill try and dig out a link I had to a guide on one of the other GW forum sites, its out of date but the advice in it is invaluable.

I too failed on the griffons first time out, even after clearing as the groups only spawn after you take the quest. My advice on that is to spawn the griffons and then using flags get one of you to stay still with the griffons but move the 6 heroes + 1 player forward clearing the spawn groups in the way. Its slow, sure, but its safe and as i was @ 10/11 quests at that point I didnt want a fail then!

The team i took out was Rachtoh's para's with expel hexes as the elite on 1/2 of them, 1 WoH monk, MM, Offensive orders Nec (orders + well of blood + splinter if i recall), 1 prot/heal monk and then humans were 1 BHA rangers, and a SY Para to go with the other para's.

Oh yer and for my money, dont forget the epidemic somewhere in the team, mass daze, blind, weakness etc FTW!

@ OP:

My Brother and I cleared FoW in NM with a 2-man/6-Hero setup. We used Sabway (which works, as long as you don't take your sweet time, once you start losing Minions, it can be a pain to get them back if you've burned through your available corpse-leaving mobs) but a Discord Team would work wonders here, too.

We took 4 hours to clear FoW. NOT because it takes that long, but because we cleared EVERYTHING OUT before we started taking quests. EVERYTHING.

We wanted to make sure that NOTHING was going to aggro and kill the NPC's, and we wanted to see the entirety of the map without being worried about killing shit, so we took our time.

For the Griffon quest, it's honestly easiest to clear out the Woods before taking the quests from the Wailing Lord. That way there's no problem at all. Yes, you'll have pop-ups once you trigger the quest, just make sure that once you take the quest, you stay out of radar range of the Griffons while you clear the pop-ups up to the Temple, then run your way back, pick up the Griffs, and take them to the Temple. Simple as pie.

Well, I finally managed to clear Fissure today. My team consisted of two Warriors, 5-man Sabway and a BHA Ranger. My rewards weren't especially great (Onyx Gemstone, Obsidian Shard, Obsidian Key, Passage Scroll), but I did receive a Sapphire and three Obsidian Shards from drops, so I can't complain. All in all, it seems that I've made about 23k from the run, and given how amusing it was, I'll likely be doing it again. Thanks for all the advice, everybody.

My next question would be for Underworld. The aatxes and such are a far cry from the FoW enemies, I'd expect, and as such I suspect that I'll require a different team build. What is a good team build for the Underworld? For now, I'm thinking 6-man Discordway, but that's just my going in blind. Any advice would be appreciated, and thanks again for the input for FoW!

The Aatxes are easily neutered by using things like block enchantments/stances/wards or spreading Blind.

The Underworld is pretty similar to FoW on the whole, just the high-damage from the Aatxes which, unchecked, will cause problems, and the quest The Four Horsemen, which if not prepared for will likely turn out to induce a fail.

Before attempting to clear UW, read Cerb's Guide to UW. even though it is designed for a 55/SS team, the creatures, quests, and strategy won't change much.

You'll need a tank for the 4 horsemen: OF ele, SB invincimonk, or permasin can all tank one side as the rest of the team takes out the other, then comes to kill the tanks side.

aside from this, know the order of quests that you are going to take, and i'd recommend clearing the mountain reaper spawn before taking the restore the monuments quest. it will slow you down by 10-15 minutes, but it is really frustrating to pop that reaper only to watch him die from traps and such from the Obsidian Behemoths. know the quests and have an idea of how to approach them. (ice wastes quests will need something that can tank ~18 terrorwebs, escort of souls and unwanted guests can surprise you if not prepared)

my wife and i 2+6 hero fow easily, but have not been able to clear UW so far. (i'm Paragon with prot monk, para, and BHA Epidemic ranger heroes, she ele (our tank) with SS necro, mesmer, and healer heroes) we've completed 10 of 11 quests, when me and the rest of party aside from my wife got wiped when i was afk. she died doing escort of souls alone, had i still been alive we would have cleared. haven't given it another serious try since, as it takes forever compared to the speed clears and our drops aren't that great compared to our 55/SS teams or permasin farms.

UW is a whole different cookie than FoW imo, but with patience and planning it can be done. good luck!
